Gasco Pty Ltd (Gasco) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by GM³ for the
supply and manufacture of a Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser (RTO) for the abatement of Ventilation
Air Methane (VAM) for GM³’s Appin Mine at Douglas Park NSW.
This highly anticipated and watershed project will serve as a demonstration plant to the Australian
underground coal mining industry, providing valuable insights and data to inform future projects for the abatement of VAM in NSW.
Construction will commence in 2026 with commissioning scheduled for 4th quarter 2026. The
project reflects GM³ long term commitment to delivering sustainability across all aspects of their
business.
The project will add to Gasco existing Green House Gas Abatement portfolio of products which
includes Coal Mine Drainage Gas Flares – both enclosed and elevated.
The RTO will convert methane present in the mine ventilation air to carbon dioxide and water
vapour. Methane has approximately 28 times the greenhouse gas equivalent of CO 2 . The conversion of methane to CO 2 represents a nett reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Once operational, the demonstration plant is expected to abate approximately 36,000 tonnes CO₂-e each year.
Gasco has a collaborative agreement with Anguil Environmental Inc. from the USA for the supply
of RTOs for VAM abatement to the Australian Coal mining industry. For the GM³ Appin project,
Anguil will design and manufacture the RTO and Gasco will provide the following products and
services:
